Blake was enamored with The Retreat the first time he saw it back in April 1999, initially blown away by its rolling dunes and the privacy it offered. Blake loved the fact that The Retreat offered 90 acres, all south of 30A in Blue Mountain Beach, nestled between a coastal dune lake and a nature preserve, on some of the highest property along the Gulf of Mexico. He is just as amazed now as he was then.

Over the past 20 years, Blake has had the honor of working intimately with many families who purchased homesites here, watching them turn their dreams into reality — the single most significant focus of his career. Blake loves helping people buy property in The Retreat and seeing them enjoy it for all the right reasons. Since The Retreat is a rental-restricted community, buyers here are almost always investing in spending time with their families.

Initially, The Retreat was coined “The Last Perfect Beach” in the late 90s. As the Panhandle and, in particular, 30A gained popularity with vacationers, quiet, low-density beaches became harder to find. The Retreat, by virtue of its location and having 3,000 feet of gulf frontage, offers that to its owners — quietest neighborhood beach on 30A. People understand that and it’s what draws them in, bolstered by large homesites and quality construction making it a perfect place to live full-time or visit for extended periods of time.

Blake has sold more than 100 homes and homesites, totaling nearly $250 million, in The Retreat, and has had a hand in nearly every waterfront sale — and a majority of resales — in the neighborhood. He’s had the honor of knowing most of the original owners and early residents of The Retreat and, over the years, he has helped them select architects and builders suitable for their needs and, later, trade homes — always a bittersweet move after they’ve accomplished family goals and look to start a new chapter. Blake has also helped many of those owners’ children purchase their own properties at the beach. He loves working with generations of families and helping them chase their dreams until they become their reality.

The power of the Sotheby’s International Realty brand enables Blake to better leverage properties in The Retreat by gaining substantial global, regional and local exposure to the right buyers. As a graduate of Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation with longstanding relationships with area brokers, Blake offers clients that hire him an added advantage through negotiations that result in the achievement of their goals with goodwill left intact. As the founder and co-owner of Scenic Sotheby’s International Realty, Blake leads 99 full-time local experts who together closed $1.56 billion in sales in 2023.
